Szőlőhegy (Grape Hill) – Mužla

Visitors fond of quiet and relaxing country life are welcome by thatched press houses, fine wine and a wonderful panorama on the south-facing Mužla Szőlőhegy (Grape Hill), which look back to a 150-year-old past. Walking between the rows of grapes, sediments formed in the Pannon Sea which used to cover the area of the Carpathian Basin can be seen, and the calcified skeletons and imprints of snails and shells can be detected. In this area sweet white wine and Portugieser were dominant among the old noble or tender grapes, as they used to be called in the locality. It was only in the second half of the 20th century that Italian Riesling, Green Veltliner and Királyleányka (King’s Maiden) spread in the region. Walking on the dirt roads you can look around from several points. Although you cannot see the River Danube, which is nearby and basically affects the local climate, the elevations of the Gerecse Hills (Nagy-Gete, Öreg-kő) on the other, Hungarian side can be clearly detected.
